The short version

Nou is a contemplative companion. We treat your inner life with the same care you bring to it. We collect only what's needed to provide the service, we never sell your data, and we give you full control over what's stored.

What we collect

Account information

  • Email address (for authentication via Clerk)
  • Display name (if provided)
  • Purchase status — whether you hold a season, or a Companion plan bought before August 2026 (this page calls both “a season”)

Conversation data

Your messages — what you write and what Nou says back — are stored, not just processed in the moment and discarded. That's what lets a conversation stay coherent while it's happening, and lets a few other things work. Conversation content is used to:

  • Generate contextual responses during your session, and let a session resume after you close the tab
  • Build your Mirror (pattern analysis) — free until the Mirror shows you your first true pattern, and inside a season after that
  • Maintain episodic memory across recent sessions, on the same terms as the Mirror

We keep this history until you delete it. There is currently no automatic expiry — see “Data controls” below for what deleting it actually does today.

Mirror pattern analysis

Nou analyses your conversation history to identify:

  • Recurring triggers and themes
  • Warm moments and growth edges
  • Somatic patterns (body-related observations you share)

This analysis is stored as structured summaries. It runs for everyone until the Mirror shows you your first true pattern — a pattern you tell the Mirror you had not seen — and from then on only while you hold a season. Once it stops, nothing new is built from your conversations; what was already built stays until you delete it. You can view it any time on the Mirror page, answer or decline any observation there whether or not you hold a season, and season holders can export it as a markdown document from there.

When you answer that a pattern is new to you, we may record the date of that first answer. It exists only to say when the free window ended. It is never shown back to you as progress, never drives a message, and is deleted with the rest of your data.

Episodic memory

Episodic memory allows Nou to carry forward key moments and themes across recent sessions. It is kept on the same terms as the Mirror: free until your first pattern, then part of a season. Individual memories aren't yet viewable or deletable one at a time — deleting your data (below) removes all of it, along with everything else.

Constellation visualization data

The Constellation feature creates a visual map of your session themes and connections. This data is derived from your Mirror analysis and is stored as structured metadata (theme labels, connection strengths) — not additional conversation content.

What we do NOT store

  • Mental health diagnoses or clinical assessments
  • IP addresses or precise location data
  • Browsing history outside of Nou

Cross-product data sharing

Nou is part of the Immanence family of products. With your explicit consent, insights from your use of one Immanence product may inform your experience in another. For example, what Nou learns about your contemplative patterns could make prompts in other Immanence apps more resonant.

This sharing is always opt-in, never automatic. You can manage cross-product data sharing from your Immanence account settings at immanence.inc.

AI processing

Nou uses Anthropic's Claude API to generate responses. When you send a message:

  • Your message is sent to Anthropic's API for processing
  • Anthropic does not use your conversations to train their models
  • Conversations are processed in real-time and not stored by Anthropic beyond their standard API retention policy
  • Conversations (your messages and Nou's replies) are also logged to Braintrust, a quality-evaluation service we use to measure and improve how Nou responds. These logs are never tied to your account, and identifiers like email addresses and phone numbers are removed first

Third-party services

We use the following services to provide Nou:

  • Clerk — authentication and account management
  • Supabase — database hosting (encrypted at rest)
  • Vercel — hosting and analytics (privacy-focused, no personal data)
  • Stripe — payment processing (we never see your full card number)
  • Anthropic — AI conversation processing
  • Braintrust — AI quality evaluation (conversation logs, never tied to your account)

We never sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

Data controls

You have real control over your data, self-serve, today:

  • View — Your Mirror (patterns, warm moments, growth edges, somatic profile) is on the Mirror page in the app; Constellation is its own page
  • Export — “Export all data” in Settings downloads everything — every session and message, your Mirror, preferences, episodic memory, any patterns you declined, and the first-pattern date if one was recorded — as one file. Season holders can also export a readable Mirror-only document from the Mirror page
  • Delete — “Delete all data” in Settings permanently removes everything above, including the first-pattern date, and ends any active Nou season or legacy subscription. This is currently all-or-nothing: there's no way yet to delete a single session or memory on its own

If you use other Immanence products, deleting your Nou data does not delete your shared Immanence account — Settings tells you plainly what was removed. Questions, or need help with any of this: privacy@immanence.inc.

  • Locale preference in localStorage
  • No third-party tracking cookies
